Day 1: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park (417 Kms)
You will depart Kampala in the morning after breakfast and travel westwards through Uganda’s beautiful green countryside to the Queen Elizabeth National Park. The journey will take around 6 to 7 hours with stopovers at Royal Drum makers village and a place which is lying in the equator. Here, you’ll be standing in two hemispheres simultaneously. Through the savannah grasslands and banana plantations, the tour will continue and you’ll be coming across long-horned Ankole cattle which is endemic to this specific part of the country. You’ll reach Queen Elizabeth National Park in the evening and will be accommodated at at Bush Lodge or Baboon Resort (Mid-range).
Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise
At around 6:30 am, you’ll be taken for a morning game drive and get to see numerous animal species in their natural habitat. You can expect to see most of the members of the Big Five: elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard along with kobs, giant forest hog, hyenas, antelopes, and waterbucks and numerous bird species. You’ll return to the lodge and have your breakfast and relax till lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll be taken for a launch cruise along the Kazinga channel to have a close encounter with animals like hippos, crocodiles, and grazing animals like buffalos, and elephants on the banks of the channel. A variety of bird species like the shoebill, pelican, and jacana can be spotted as well. Dinner and overnight at Bush Lodge or Baboon Resort (Mid-range).
Day 3: Transfer to Murchison Falls
After your breakfast travel to Murchison falls with lunch en-routes. The drive will take you through the verdant countryside and you’ll come across traditional homesteads and farms in the town of Hoima and Fort Portal which rests under the fabled Mountains of the Moon. Day 4: Game drive and Boat launch on the Nile
You will have an early start (6.30am) and set off at for a sunrise game drive in the Nyamsika plateau to see the Cape buffaloes, Rothschild’s giraffes, Uganda kob, hartebeest and waterbucks. Besides that, other animals which you may spot during the tour are oribi, bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, sitatunga, warthog, bush duiker, bush pig. Large carnivores like lions, leopards, spotted hyenas also can be seen with some effort. Six primate species are also found in this park including the chimpanzees and olive baboons. Crocodiles and hippos are seen along the bank of Nile River which is also an excellent breeding ground for bird species. Some bird species like goliath heron, pelican, hornbill, kingfisher, bee-eaters, Egyptian geese, cormorant, saddle-bill stork and the rare shoebill stork can be spotted near the bank. You will return to the lodge for breakfast and relax till afternoon when you’ll be taken for a boat ride on the Victoria Nile, upstream to the base of the waterfalls. En route you will see hippos, crocodiles, water buck and a wide variety of birds like the unusual shoebill stork. The boat will make a brief stop meters away from a place called “Devil’s Cauldron” where you can take up close pictures of the majestic Murchison Falls. Parkside Safari Lodge/Fort Murchison Lodge
Day 5: Visit the top of the falls and Ziwa Rhino
After having your breakfast, you’ll get to visit the top of the Murchison Falls where you can see the river Nile squeezing itself into a 7 meter gorge and then tumbles down 40 meters into the floor creating a thunderous explosion sound. Then it flows as a peaceful river harbouring a rich variety of water and land animals as well as birds. You will head to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking which takes around two hours before heading to Kampala for lunch en-routes, before connecting to Entebbe to catch you’ evening flight.
