1-Day Volcanoes Gorilla Trekking Safari Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trek – Return to Kigali

Early Morning Pick-Up (04:30–05:00 am)
Your driver-guide picks you up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport. You depart early for a scenic drive north through Rwanda’s rolling hills, often called “the Land of a Thousand Hills.”

  • Driving time: approx. 2.5–3 hours
  • En-route views of rural villages, tea plantations, and volcanoes

Arrival & Briefing at Park Headquarters (07:00 am)

Arrive at the park headquarters in Kinigi for registration and a mandatory briefing by park rangers.

  • Learn about gorilla behavior and trekking rules
  • Allocation to a specific gorilla family
  • Group size limited to 8 trekkers per gorilla family

Gorilla Trekking Experience (08:00 am – late morning)

Begin your guided trek into the forest, accompanied by armed rangers and trackers.

  • Trek duration: 1–5 hours (depending on gorilla location)
  • Terrain: forest trails, bamboo zones, volcanic slopes

Once the gorillas are located, you are allowed one unforgettable hour to observe them as they feed, play, groom, and interact—an intimate and deeply moving wildlife experience.

End of Trek & Certificate

After the encounter, trek back to the starting point and receive your official gorilla trekking certificate.

Lunch & Relaxation (Midday / Early Afternoon)

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant or lodge in Musanze (can be pre-arranged or paid directly).

Afternoon Return to Kigali

Depart Musanze and drive back to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
Drop-off at your hotel or the airport for evening departures.
