This 4-day Akagera Wildlfe & Bwindi Gorillas safari combines classic savannah game viewing with unforgettable primate encounters. Begin your adventure in Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savannah park, known for its big game and scenic lakes.
Continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to over 400 endangered mountain gorillas and ancient Afro-montane rainforest. The journey concludes in Volcanoes National Park, where you trek through bamboo forests to observe the playful and rare golden monkeys.

Akagera Wildlfe & Bwindi Gorillas Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 – Kigali to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, meet your safari guide and depart from Kigali for Akagera National Park (approx. 2½ hours).
On arrival, enjoy a guided nature walk, followed by lunch at Akagera Game Lodge.
In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you may see hippos, crocodiles, and water birds such as the African fish eagle and papyrus gonolek.
Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 2 – Akagera Morning Game Drive & Transfer to Bwindi
Enjoy an early morning game drive in Akagera National Park, searching for elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, antelopes, and primates such as olive baboons and vervet monkeys.
After the game drive, proceed to the border for clearance and continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda.
Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, and relax.
Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3 – Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Transfer to Musanze
After an early breakfast, report to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines. Accompanied by expert ranger guides, trek through dense forest in search of a habituated gorilla family.
The trek may take 2–8 hours, depending on gorilla movements. You will spend one unforgettable hour observing the gorillas at close range.
After the trek, transfer back to Rwanda and continue to Musanze for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – Golden Monkey Trekking & Transfer to Kigali
After an early breakfast, transfer to the Kinigi park headquarters by 7:00 am for a briefing before golden monkey trekking.
Begin your guided walk into the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park, where the terrain is relatively gentle. Spend one hour observing golden monkeys as they feed, leap through bamboo, and interact playfully.
Return to the lodge for lunch, then transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
