Where to go Mountain Hiking in Uganda
Mountain Rwenzori
Located in the Western part, Mount Rwenzori is the highest mountain in Uganda found at the border with D.R Congo. It derives its name from the Bakonzo people who referred it to Rwenzori meaning the “Rain maker” because all year availability of clouds that never leave the skies. This magnificent wonder of nature is nestled at the foot of the Rift Valley where it spreads to 120 km. Mountain climbers will be pleased to learn that Rwenzori provides more than 6 unique peaks of Gessi (4715 m), Luigi da Savoia (4,627 m), Emin (4,797 m), Mount Stanley (5,109 m) among others. This mountain is the highest in Uganda and the third after Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya.
This feature is worthy visiting during the Africa safari since is the only non-volcanic mountain in Africa formed as a result of faulting. The “Mountains of the moon” is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site that has attracted a good number of climbers in the past decades. Climbing Mount Elgon
One of the spectacular land forms in Uganda is the Mount Elgon, a volcanic features that has seen several ages and the passing of time. While at the border between Uganda and Kenya, the largest solitary volcano is evident as a high rising land mass almost touching the skies. The Wagagai (4,321 meters) is the highest point of Mount Elgon and during Uganda Mountain Hiking Safari, it is possible to hike it.
The mountain has one of the largest calderas in Africa about 8 km wide although it has been eroded over the years. The world on top of Mount Elgon is a less congested wilderness therefore climbing is much easier than you can imagine.

The Best Time for Uganda Mountain Hiking Safaris
