This 4-day Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trekking Safari offers an extraordinary opportunity to experience Uganda’s iconic primates in their natural habitats. The journey begins in the misty rainforests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to over half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After an early breakfast, depart from Kampala or Entebbe and travel west toward Bwindi. Along the way, stop at the Equator for photos and refreshments before continuing through Uganda’s rolling countryside.
Enjoy lunch in Mbarara town and proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, arriving in the late afternoon. Spend the evening relaxing at your lodge surrounded by forest sounds.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing at 7:45 am. With experienced guides, trek through dense forest in search of a habituated gorilla family. The trek may take between 1 and 8 hours, depending on gorilla movements.
Once found, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing the gorillas as they feed, interact, and relax. After the trek, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, often described as the “Switzerland of Africa” for its terraced hills and cool climate.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park and Bigodi Swamp Walk
After breakfast, depart Lake Bunyonyi and drive to Kibale Forest National Park. The journey offers beautiful views of the Rwenzori Mountains as you approach Fort Portal.
After lunch in Fort Portal, visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run conservation area rich in birdlife and primates. Expect to see various monkey species and colorful birds, including the Great Blue Turaco.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Return to Kampala or Kigali
After breakfast, proceed to Kibale Forest for chimpanzee trekking. The activity begins at 8:00 am with a briefing before entering the forest to search for chimpanzees in their natural environment.
In addition to chimpanzees, you may encounter other primates such as red colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and blue monkeys. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch before beginning your journey back to Kampala or Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon.
