The journey begins with a scenic nature hike in Rwenzori Mountains National Park, followed by unforgettable mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
You then cross into Rwanda for golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park, concluding with chimpanzee tracking in the ancient rainforests of Nyungwe Forest National Park.
The safari also includes a visit to a Genocide Memorial, offering insight into Rwanda’s recent history.

6-day Uganda–Rwanda primate and hiking adventure Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali – Transfer to Rwenzori Mountains National Park (Uganda)

You will be picked up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport and begin a scenic drive towards Uganda, crossing the Rwanda–Uganda border. Enjoy views of Rwanda’s rolling hills and lush countryside—earning it the name “Land of a Thousand Hills.”
Arrive at the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains in the evening.

Day 2: Rwenzori Nature Hike – Sine Hut / Kalalama Camp

After breakfast, begin your guided hike from the park gate at 1,450m. Trek through the Afro-montane forest zone, home to towering trees, birdlife, and blue monkeys.
You may hike up to Sine Hut (2,596m) or continue further to Kalalama Camp (3,134m) for those seeking a challenge.
Visit the picturesque Enock Falls, surrounded by lush green vegetation.
Later descend and transfer to Kasese town.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, drive southwest to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Enjoy scenic landscapes, rural villages, and a lunch stop en route.
Arrive in Bwindi in the evening and relax ahead of your gorilla trek.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi – Transfer to Musanze (Rwanda)

An early start for a briefing at park headquarters on gorilla trekking guidelines.
The trek may take 2–8 hours, depending on gorilla movement. Once found, you will spend one magical hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat.
After the trek, cross into Rwanda and continue to Musanze.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking – Transfer to Nyungwe Forest

After an early breakfast, head to Kinigi for a briefing before entering Volcanoes NP for golden monkey trekking.
The trek is relatively easy through bamboo forests, where you will spend an hour watching these playful primates feed and interact.
Afterwards, drive south to Nyungwe Forest with a lunch stop and a visit to the Bisesero Genocide Memorial, a powerful site commemorating the 1994 genocide.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking – Return to Kigali

After breakfast, attend a briefing before entering Nyungwe Forest in search of chimpanzees.
Along the way, you may encounter colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, vervets, and a variety of bird species.
After the trek, drive back to Kigali with lunch en route and transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
