This 10 Days Gorillas Wildlife & Zanzibar Safari is a unique safari package that combines gorilla trekking, wildlife viewing and beach experience on a single Africaan Safari. This 10 Days Gorillas Wildlife & Zanzibar Safari takes you to some of the best places in East Africa, including Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Serengeti National Park.
This safari begins with mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to more than 459 gorillas. These gorillas live in about 50 groups, and 21 of these groups are habituated and can be visited by tourists.
From Uganda, this 10 Days Gorillas Wildlife & Zanzibar Safari will then take you to Tanzania for a memorable wildlife viewing experience before proceeding to Zanzibar for a relaxing beach safari.
Detailed day by day 10 Days Gorillas Wildlife & Zanzibar Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & Transfer to Bwindi
Your driver guide will pick you up at 7:00 am and drive you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You’ll drive through the beautiful countryside, passing several towns. Lunch will be enjoyed enroute. Arive in Bwindi by late afternoon and proceed to your booked safari lodge. Check in and relax in the evening whilst enjoying the magnificent vistas of the beautiful landscape. Have dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Rest of the Day at Leisure at the Lodge
Following your early morning breakfast at the lodge, head to the park headquarters. Meet other guests for a gorilla trekking briefing, where you will receive all the important information about gorilla trekking; including the dos and don’ts for your trek. After the briefing session, you will be assigned a gorilla family to track.
It is time to enter the jungle to search for the endangered gorillas in their natural habitat. Even though the trek can be quite challenging, you are sure to eventually find the gorillas in their natural habitat and this will easily make you forget the effort you went through to reach them. After finding the gorillas, you will spend about one full hour excited and watching the gorillas, with many chances to take photos and videos for memories.
Later after trekking, return to the park headquarters and then continue to your lodge for some relaxation and if you want you can go for a community visit or cultural tour to learn how the locals live and enjoy cultural performances.
Day 3: Transfer to transfer to Serengeti
After an early morning breakfast your driver/guide will transfer you to Kigali City International Airport to catch a flight to Tanzania. Board your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania. Upon arrival, transfer to your booked accommodation in Arusha, check in and have dinner. Dinner and overnight in Arusha.
Day 4: Visit to Lake Manyara
After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara offers an insight into the Great Rift Valley system and the adaptation of many herd animals and magnificent birdlife. The park is gifted with a variety of ecosystems that inhabit the tree climbing lions, buffalos, blue monkeys . Continue to Esilalei Maasai Village to explore the area and our school project. Meet the local women engineers who have installed clean cook stoves throughout these communities. In the afternoon, visit the Mto wa Mbu village to enjoy a local lunch and cultural experience. In the late afternoon, we zig zag our way up the Rift Valley Escarpment and onto the crater highlands for overnight.
Day 5: Visit to Ngorongoro crater
Have breakfast and transfer to Ngorongoro. Along the way, you will have chances of passing by Olduvai George, one of the most outstanding paleoanthropological sites in the world, with traces of pre-historic man. Ngorongoro is an incredible natural Amphitheatre, 25 km across and teeming with all of the African big game. Early morning descent into the crater for spectacular scenery and game viewing in what has been described as the eighth wonder of the world. While here, you will have chances of scenic views of the big five. The crater is arguably the best place in Tanzania to see the big five in one day. After lunch, transfer to the incredible central areas of the Serengeti.
Day 6: Game drives in Serengeti
After breakfast, you will spend the whole day exploring the wide plains of Serengeti. This gives you a good chance to see different areas like rocky hills (kopjes) and places near rivers. Serengeti is the oldest park in Tanzania and has many animals. It is famous for the yearly migration of over 1.5 million wildebeest and more than 200,000 zebras.
The park also has one of the largest numbers of lions in Africa, about 3,000. Other animals you may see include hyenas, leopards, wild dogs, and cheetahs. There are also elephants, rare black rhinos, and many other animals. Serengeti is truly full of wildlife and has very beautiful views. You will go on game drives and enjoy nature.
Day 7: Travel to Zanzibar
After breakfast, you will have a short game drive to Seronera airstrip, where you will take a flight back to Arusha. From Arusha, you will take another flight to Zanzibar.
When you arrive, you will be taken to Sunshine Marine Lodge at Matemwe Beach. After checking in, you will have time to rest and enjoy the beautiful beach views. You will have your meals and spend the night at the lodge.
Day 8: Water activities in Zanzibar
After breakfast, you will go for a 20-minute boat ride to Mnemba Marine Park for snorkeling. The water here is clear and full of sea life and coral reefs, which are very nice to see.
Zanzibar’s blue waters are perfect for water activities, and you may see many sea creatures. In the evening, you can relax at the lodge, enjoy the sunset, and have a special dinner.
Day 9: Travel to Stone Town
You will leave Matemwe Beach and go to Stone Town, where you will check into your hotel. Later, a guide will take you on a walking tour of the town.
You will learn about the history and culture of the place as you walk through small streets, see old buildings, and visit places connected to the past slave trade. After the tour, you will have dinner and spend the night at the hotel.
Day 1: Stone Town tour and departure
After breakfast, you will go for a half-day spice tour. You will also enjoy a traditional Swahili lunch in a local home. During the tour, you will visit Mtoni Palace ruins and learn more about the history of the area.
After the tour, you will return to the hotel, pack your bags, and then be taken to Zanzibar airport for your flight back home.
